Dining Out

Lemon Grass, Oud Metha

"Authentic aromas and ingredients conjure, not a place, but people. A cuisine that lingers on the tongue. Exotic and appealing time after time." That's what it says on the cover of the menu.

The last time we went to a Thai Restaurant (Smiling BKK), it was so unpleasant that we walked out. We were just served appetizers and I saw a cockroach crawling on our table next to the food! For some they're probably a delicacy, but they weren't on the menu and it was gross and unsanitary to say the least. We told them about it and they were not apologetic at all and expected us to pay for the appetizer! After that incident, we avoided eating Thai foods from outside.

That was until we were in Oud Metha area and was looking for a place to eat. We initially planned on Chinese, Lan Kwai Fong, but the last time we visited we weren't impressed. So why not Filipino, I knew there was a Barrio Fiesta in Lamcy, went there found out they're out of business. So we ended up in Lemon Grass just across Lamcy. Been there before and they don't disappoint. This is the place to go when you want to have food orgasm that doesn't make a hole on your wallet!

Le Relais de L'Entrecôte, Festival Centre

It was a cool evening in Dubai, the weather was perfect to dine al fresco, but there was only two tables occupied in Le Relais de L'Entrecôte. They only serve one main dish and you expect it to be just right or perfect...but no (according to my companion anyways).

This place is dangerous to your health, they're all about the "butter", and I love butter. I liked the butter fries, and I think I'm going to start using butter in my fries at home from now on.

Steak-Frites (refill included)

I don't remember what this is called, it's got layers of meringue, ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. It screams "fat ass" :D

The Cheesecake Factory, Dubai Mall and IHOP, MOE

Al Shaya Babies...if you live in Dubai, you know what I mean...too bad I have no photos of P.F. Changs and Shake Shack food.

I love The Cheesecake Factory, probably because of Big Bang Theory, went there the first week they opened, and unlike the others who visited we experienced a pretty good customer service. The food's is A okay, cheesecakes were rich. IHOP on the other hand is just overhyped.

Jebel Ali Shooting Club

a peek at the menu

nachos and salsa

my 7-pcs onion rings, damn 1 piece of whole onion for Dhs 30, it was bland but so crunchy and the bbq sauce made up for it and his starter, I forgot but for sure it was some raw fish or something...

his cowboy steak

my jumbo prawns...yum!

Saladicious, Jumeirah

went to Saladicious yet again, one of  the resto's I introduced to my beloved and quickly became one of his fave...lovely dinner...but the food below was just my dinner, as he started digging into his food before I could whip  out the camera...let's just say he had some raw salmon for his starter and some duck for his main :D

Chocolate Mousse (my starter), Fresh Watermelon

Veal Milanese with Penne Arrabiata

Crown and Lion, Byblos @ Tecom

After the couple's massage at Jasmine Spa in Grand Millenium we were supposed to go have lunch at Toshi at the same hotel but they don't open till evening. So we headed down to what seems to be becoming a favourite...Crown and Lion at Byblos. I love that place, it's cheap and you get good food.

Amika, Monarch Hotel

Someone was feeling spontaneous...so i took the chance and dragged him to Amika at Monarch Hotel for late dinner and drinks...

a page from the menu

my first course: cheese cake
(my never ending search for the best cheese cake, i still think Circle's cheesecake is the best! i love the coulis and and the addition of vanilla ice cream on this cheesecake though)

his first course: beef carpaccio
(im now thinking this one of his fave since he almost always order it when its on the menu and he said this one is the best carpaccio he had so far!)

my main course: slow cooked beef cheek served over mashed potato, chantarelle mushrooms, sauteed brussels sprout, red wine sauce reduction
(exactly the reason i took a photo of that page from the menu...so i will be able to write all those :D)
the beef was oh so tender and so yummay!

his main course: same as above...he didn't order any mains at first cos he said he was still full but when he saw me digging in he got so tempted and since we were not in Karama we couldn't exchange plate or share food...

red red wine

a bottle of bourgogne pinot noir

overall experience: very satisfactory, the food was the best (according to my companion), i must agree that the beef was heavenly, the Moldovan waiter was attentive...always on his feet to pour us wine and sparkling water...at one point they started conversing in Russian which was music to my ears (you decide if that was sarcastic or sweet :D) ...it was sweet, i would love to learn how to speak fluent Russian but it is just so eggin difficult...

interior is so-so, i've seen better...the empty frames don't cut it for me...

the bill came out to a whopping AEDxxxx! well, mainly cos of the wine
this is by far the most expensive fine dinner i've had and i love the fact that i was with a special someone but i know there are much better fine dining restos out there

are we going back? hmmm maybe for a couple of drinks or ladies night! for food...gotta try a new one!

Thai Terrace, Trade Centre Road

When we wanna eat something nasty, we always head to Karama. We initially planned on eating crispy Korean chicken at Bon Chon (now kimchikin) but saw a parking spot just right in front of Thai Terrace so we decided to have Thai instead.

Big mistake! Huge! Food was average and redonkulously overpriced! The resto is in Trade Centre Road opposite Spinneys, in line with the usual fast food restos for crying out loud! Nobody expects to pay Dhs50+ for appetizers. I assume the place is popular with single eaters cos there were three occupied tables when we arrived and they all seemed to be having tom yum. I need to restore my faith in Thai food. Need to visit Lemongrass, but not anytime soon...

what we ordered:

Poo Ja (Deep Fried Stuffed Crab)
crab shell filled with mixed crab meat, shrimp, chicken then deep fried
*no trace of crab on the stuffing, i think the only crab in that was the shell*

Goong Hom Pha (Deep Fried Prawn Spring Roll)
whole prawns marinated in special sauce
*this i like, it was prawn wrapped on a pastry, then again you can hardly go wrong with that*

Phad Poy Sian (Stir Fried Glass Noodle Seafood)
shrimp, squid, fish ball, thai celery and mixed veg
*bland, hardly any noodles, squid was rubbery*

Drinks (Tea and Coke)

MORE, Murooj Rotana

A Friday wholesome brunch. For Dhs 95/- it's an OK choice for those who want to brunch but still hungover from Thursday night and wanna stay away from spirits. I only got to take photos of my eggs benedict breakfast (which I've had better) cos after that I was so busy filling up myself with mains :D
